  • Jackie Condron and 10 others like this.
    • Nina Power Seriously: would anyone listen if I proposed something? Thinking a show with me and Laura Oldfield Ford would be pretty great.

    • Juliet Jacques I'd be interested! What would be the theme?

    • Juliet Jacques ‎(I'm hoping to pitch something to them myself when I'm a bit more mobile, quite possibly on queer culture ...)

    • Nina Power Well, not sure! But it'd be great to have interviews with people like you, White Hotel, Casper Potemkin, etc. about gender, feminism, work, philosophy etc. with music...?!

    • Nina Power But you should definitely pitch your idea: I'd listen to that.

    • Juliet Jacques I met a chap called Sean who works at the Cultivate Gallery on Vyner Street recently. He has a show on Resonance FM and gave a bit of advice on how to pitch. If you're in Bethnal Green any time soon (I'm back there in August) we could go and chat to him, have a coffee and bounce ideas off each other? (And I'd be honoured to be interviewed by you!)

    • Nina Power Yes! That'd be great - am really enthused by the radio idea. Do you have my no? Will DM you it now x

    • Juliet Jacques I don't, but send it my way x

    • Dike Strength Having your own show (with music) is a great idea!

    • White Hotel I'd listen. Well, not if I was being interviewed at the time, but the rest of the time. You too, Juliet. x

    • Alan Bradshaw I listened in and thought it was excellent - I thought the sound clips worked really well, the discussion of the disembodied female voice was pitched at a really good level and was nicely paced and the music selection was fucking great. All in all it was very strong radio and I would certainly listen in regularly if you had a show - go for it. Radio is a great medium. Finally, a story - when tv was introduced into rural Ireland apparently a family brought their great grandfather - very much a man of the 19th century - to a pub to see a TV. Anyway he sat mesmerised and sometimes closed his eyes and they assumed he was going to sleep. Afterwards they asked him what he thought about television and he said "I love it, and you know if you close your eyes it's almost as good as listening to the radio".

    • Nina Power Alan Bradshaw: what a lovely comment all round. I too adore radio as a medium. My Ma is obsessed by it, and has it on all the time, and very rarely ever watches TV, and I have it on nearly all time if I'm at home. Listening to Aaron Peters and J de Molay on Novara or Out To Lunch is a singular and rather amazing thing: there's so much you can do on radio that doesn't work elsewhere.

    • Aaron Peters do it!

    • Jacob Bard-Rosenberg I think you should propose a 40 part series on Feuerbach. I would listen to that. "The need which might resist central control has already been suppressed by the control of the individual consciousness. The step from the telephone to the radio has clearly distinguished the roles. The former still allowed the subscriber to play the role of subject, and was liberal. The latter is democratic: it turns all participants into listeners and authoritatively subjects them to broadcast programs which are all exactly the same. No machinery of rejoinder has been devised, and private broadcasters are denied any freedom. They are confined to the apocryphal field of the “amateur,” and also have to accept organisation from above."

    • Nina Power You could come on a do a guest contrarian turn, rudely attacking every claim I make and inserting "your mum" phrases as samples.
